Hear What Our Volunteers Have to Say!

"To me, Project PLASE means Progress! It has given me the opportunity to make a positive mark in my city. People always say that you can learn so much about yourself when you help others. Project PLASE is constantly proving that statement!"
-Julia S., Volunteer

For over 10 years, Hilma and Bob Swensen have volunteered to deliver produce, breads, desserts and other goods to Project PLASE’s men’s and women’s facilities on North Avenue. Read the full article "Food Fridays with the Swensens"!

Volunteer Opportunities

Gardening with Project PLASE

April through November will be PLASE's second season of organic gardening with Garden Harvest in Reisterstown. PLASE staff, volunteers, and clients take multiple monthly trips to the farm to plant, weed, and harvest. It's a great way to learn more about gardening, get out in the country, and get some exercise!

Garden Volunteer Days last from 9AM-1:30PM and include weeding, tilling, composting, preparing rows, and planting. You do not need to have any prior gardening experience to participate. If you are interested, contact our Community Projects Coordinator at 410-837-1400 x36. To learn more about PLASE's green projects, visit our blog

Direct Service Activities

Project PLASE offers a variety of volunteer opportunities ranging from one time events to ongoing projects. Our volunteer projects include activites such as mentoring and tutoring residents, participating in social activities, moving residents, providing arts and crafts instruction, repairing or maintaining our buildings, and facilitating exercise or relaxation classes (yoga, walking, tai chi). Such programs have a powerful impact on our clients, staff and volunteers!

PLASE Board of Directors

Project PLASE is looking for a few good men and women to expand our current volunteer Board of Directors. We will consider professionals and retired persons who are passionate about advocating for the homeless and free to financially support our work. PLASE especially encourages people with professional experience in housing development, real estate, marketing, events planning, graphic design and public relations to contact us.

Special Needs Opportunities

Project PLASE has volunteer positions that can accomodate community members with special needs.

DID YOU KNOW?

According to SAMHSA's Treatment Episode Data Set (TEDS), more than 120,000 admissions to substance abuse treatment in 2000 were homeless at time of admission. Admissions who were homeless were more likely to be veterans and were older (average age 38 years) than admissions who were not homeless (age 33).
